Another stretch of 5k a day
Five and a half years after the first month of 5k a day, I went again - this time from mid-June through to the end of August. Two and a half months of (nearly) daily 5k+, with at least a monthly 10k thrown in too.
The big difference between 2020-me and 2025-me was starting Parkrun again in May 2024. This meant Day 1 in 2025 was accidental and a ~30 min trot, whereas Day 1 in 2020 was a very tough 35-minute 5k. The streak threw up two parkrun PBs:
- 9 Aug — Bedgebury Pinetum, 24:35 — my first ever sub-25 parkrun (and 25th parkrun overall)
- 23 Aug — Portobello, Edinburgh, 24:05 — knocked another 30 seconds off two weeks later on parkrun tourism (Strava says 23 something!)
| Month | 5k+ runs | Total km | Best parkrun |
|---|---|---|---|
| Jun (from 18th) | 6 | 33 | 27:22 (Ashbourne) |
| Jul | 27 | 152 | 25:21 (Squerryes Winery) |
| Aug | 25 | 138 | 24:05 (Portobello) |
| Total | 58 | ~323 | 24:05 |
The daily 5k splits sat mostly between 25 and 30 minutes on the back-to-back days; the PBs came on parkruns where there’s a course, a clock, and someone to follow. My first pacer attempt in Kingdom Parkrun (26:21, 22/03/25) failed, but a kind man at Bedgebury (and a 25 under 25 milestone) was all I needed.
